On Thursday 12 May 2022 in our school held a national Hackathon. With the students of our school, attended by students from Vrbovec, Zagreb and Ivanic city. Our task was to teamwork find a solution for one of two problems. Most teams chose the problem of ‘Integration immigrant in society’ mostly because of continued currency. In the end, each of the teams won the prizes depending on the winning place.
I liked this type of competition, because unless we bring interesting solutions, we have gained new friends and also exchanged many other experiences on participation in other projects, education, graduating from high school, team working.
Experts from four schools in Zagreb County tried to come up with solutions to pressing world problems at the EU HACKATHON national competition.
This competition is part of the ERASMUS+ project of the same name, in which Dugo Selo Secondary School is one of the partners. The goal of the project is to encourage students of professional occupations to develop digital competences, innovation, critical thinking and problem solving through learning through play with an emphasis on ESTEAME concepts.
Secondary School Dugo Selo, as the host, gathered VET students from Secondary School “Ivan Švear” Ivanić Grad, Secondary School Vrbovec and Secondary Electrical Engineering School Zagreb in a competition for the best solution to the two problems offered: the problem of single-use plastic and the problem brought by migration. One of the contestants, Dorotea Krpanić from Dugo Selo High School, explains with positive impressions how she liked it: “Our task was to find a solution to one of the two offered problems through teamwork. Most of the teams chose the problem of ‘Integration of immigrants into society’ mainly because of today’s topicality. In the end, each of the teams won valuable prizes. I liked this type of competition because, in addition to coming up with interesting solutions, we made new acquaintances, but also exchanged various other experiences about participation in other projects, schooling, graduation…”.
Professors Petar Rajaković, Ružica Mlinarić, Matija Pušić and Simona Košnjak participated in the organisation of the entire meeting, which took place on May 12, 2022, under the leadership of the project manager for Croatia Helena Ivanac Perutka, who said: “We are putting a challenge before you too, contact the Facebook page of the EU Hackathon project with your creative proposals for solutions.”
